Syracuse VA Honors Two World War II Veterans in Joint Centenarian Ceremony

The ground floor hallways of the Syracuse VA Medical Center were filled with applause, cheers, and profound gratitude as staff, patients, and fellow Veterans lined up to honor two remarkable local heroes.

The medical center had the distinct privilege of hosting a joint Centenarian Ceremony to celebrate the milestone birthdays of two legendary U.S. Navy World War II Veterans: Mrs. Grace Dajoia, celebrating her 105th birthday, and Mr. Nathan Howard, celebrating his 100th birthday.

The atmosphere inside the facility was electric as the Syracuse VA family made "some noise" to show their appreciation for the honorees. Between them, Mrs. Dajoia and Mr. Howard represent over two centuries of life and an enduring legacy of service to the United States during one of the most pivotal eras in global history.

"We were deeply honored to host this Centenarian Ceremony for Mrs. Grace Dajoia and Mr. Nathan Howard," said Mr. Michael DelDuca, Syracuse VA Executive Director. "Both served our country proudly in the U.S. Navy during World War II. We thank Mrs. Dojoia and Mr. Howard for their service, their legacy, and for bringing so much joy to our halls today!"

Centenarian ceremonies at VA facilities serve as a vital reminder of the sacrifices made by the "Greatest Generation." Events like today's underscore the Syracuse VA Medical Center's ongoing commitment to not only providing exceptional healthcare to Veterans, but also ensuring their stories, milestones, and dedication to the nation are celebrated and remembered.
