On August 5, 2025, James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital transformed into a hub of knowledge and opportunity as it hosted its highly anticipated Education Fair.

Designed to foster growth among employees and students from the University of South Florida, the event attracted approximately 125 attendees and featured participation from 20 respected learning institutions.

The hospital education department expressed the commitment to fostering a culture of learning and development. “We recognize the importance and value of ongoing education,” said Tammy Bristow, education staff member. “One of the standout features of education fairs is the wealth of free materials available. One can walk away with college catalogues, brochures, and an array of resources that will help narrow down the choices as you continue your academic journey.”

The fair, held in the hospital's auditorium quickly drew crowds eager to explore educational pathways. Various booths showcased programs ranging from nursing and healthcare management to social work and mental health services, reflecting the diverse career opportunities available in the medical field. With representatives from each institution on hand, attendees had the chance to engage in one-on-one discussions, ask critical questions, and gain valuable insights into prospective academic pursuits.

“As the local Tampa Bay representative for over 300 online programs, connecting with professionals in the healthcare systems truly means helping them pick the program of interest, apply all potential scholarships and providing them with the best advising experience for them to succeed.” stated Dan Eagles, Grand Canyon University Development Counselor.

By fostering key partnerships with local educational institutions, James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital is not only enhancing career opportunities for its employees and students but also investing in the quality of care provided to Veterans in the community. The success of this Education Fair marks a significant step forward in promoting education as a vital component of healthcare excellence.

“Florida Southern College is honored to have been invited back to another education fair at the James A. Haley VA Hospital! We are proud to support the dedicated nurses who care for our Veterans in advancing their education and careers.” remarked Abbey Bonet, Assistant Director of Adult and Graduate Admission, Florida Southern College.

Katie Hawkins, Partner Engagement Manager, Herzing University echoed the sentiment, “This education fair provided a valuable opportunity for us to engage directly with employees and share information about our programs that support their educational goals. As a Veteran-founded university, Herzing University is proud to offer dedicated military support advisors who provide personalized guidance to help individuals navigate their education benefits.”

As the day progressed, the energy in the room remained high, with attendees exchanging contact information and making plans to follow up with schools of interest. Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive, indicating a strong desire for similar events in the future.

Tiffany Jackson, Spinal Cord Injury Nursing staff commented on the event. “Attending the education fair with various college representations was a highly enriching experience, offering valuable insights into different academic programs. I had the opportunity to ask questions, learn about academic programs and financial aid options. The promotional gifts were a nice bonus! I look forward to attending the next event.”

“The EDU fair was a fantastic opportunity to get in touch and get familiarized with programs offered at various schools. All the representatives were incredibly inviting and shared important informational material regarding their school. I was very thankful that they came to the hospital!” remarked Natalja Giralmo, Health Technician, Patient Advocate Office.

The education fair was not just an opportunity to connect with educational institutions but also a platform to empower staff and students to reach their full potential in serving Veterans.
