VA Program Celebrates Veterans by Sharing Life Experiences Through Storytelling
PRESS RELEASE
November 8, 2024
Nashville , TN — VA Tennessee Valley Healthcare System (TVHS) is excited to announce the launch of the “My Life, My Story” project on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, to enhance Veterans’ health care experience and connection.
“My Life, My Story” is a national VA project that provides Veterans an opportunity to share their life experiences with their health care providers and family members. Each Veteran story provides a glimpse into their lives and offers physicians a chance to know Veterans on a deeper level.
Writers interview Veterans for about an hour and carefully draft a 1,000-word story about the patient’s unique life experiences. The stories are reviewed by the Veteran and, with their approval, added to their VA medical record.
To schedule an interview, Veterans can contact tvhmylifemystory@va.gov or call the TVHS “My Life, My Story” coordinator at 423-893-6500 ext. 27495 or 423-370-7159.
