Important cold weather shelter information for Veterans the community during the colder months from 2025-2026.

By Matthew Keeler, Public Affairs Specialist

Veterans, in preparation for dangerously cold weather, review the important details below regarding resources for those who need access to cold weather shelters.

In the anticipation of low temperatures, here is information on cold weather shelters in Tennessee and Kentucky for Veterans experiencing homelessness. These shelters are available in an effort to reduce cold weather exposure which can result in hypothermia, frostbite, and even death from exposure.

It is dangerous for individuals to stay outside or in places not meant for human habitation.

Nashville Response:

Office of Homeless Services (OHS) along with other Metro Departments are preparing for a weekend of low temperatures. We are closely monitoring the weather and final decisions are made by noon the prior day.

To find out if the overflow shelter is open on other nights:

  • Text the word OHSALERT to 888-777. We will text you each time Metro opens the shelter.
  • Call (615) 862-6391.
  • Visit the websites below and other social media platforms:
  1. WeGo Central: Please arrive at WeGo at 6:30 p.m. Folks downtown can catch the #23B bus to the shelter from WeGo Central at 400 Charlotte Ave. People should go downstairs to the lower level at WeGo Central and wait at Bay 24 for the #23B bus. Both the number and letter are important: 2-3-B. We will partner with agencies to secure crates for animals, as all animals will need to be in a crate this year. Bus passes given out in the morning is good for All Day Rides.
  2. Free Shuttle: The free shuttle will pick up at the following stops:
    • Brookmeade Pickups:  This will be a “Will Call” option for folks in the surrounding area. Drivers will wear orange vests, orange hats, and have orange cone flashlights – and they will put their hazard flashers on when they stop.
    • Walmart Pickups: Folks who need a pickup at the Nolensville Pike Walmart should look for the mobility solutions shuttle near the well-lit main entrance of the store. Drivers will wear orange vests, orange hats, and have orange cone flashlights – and they will put their hazard flashers on when they stop.
    • An additional Hermitage Route was added this year.
