National Volunteer Week: Dean Marier

Dean Marier is a volunteer ambassador at TVHS.

Dean Marier wasn't able to serve his country, so he found another way to serve.

Marier started volunteering as a patient driver at Tennessee Valley Healthcare System's Nashville campus seven years ago. He arrived to the Nashville campus at 2:30 a.m. for his first day and completed his first patient pick-up at 3:30 a.m. His next pick-up was at 4 a.m.

"I volunteer for VA because I was unable to serve my country in uniform," he said. "Now, I offer my service to Veterans."

Dean has 5800 hours in 7 years as a TVHS Volunteer, transporting patients during the pandemic with over 700 hours since October 2020.

TVHS is looking for volunteers to serve America's heroes. Contact the TVHS Center for Development and Civic Engagement at 615-873-8567 or visit www.volunteer.va.gov to get started.
