3rd Annual Women Veterans Baby Shower

By Anaia Funtanilla, Public Affairs Specialist
The VA Texas Valley Coastal Bend Health Care System recently celebrated its 3rd Annual Women Veterans Baby Shower, a cherished event recognizing and supporting Veteran mothers-to-be.
This year, the events were held at two locations: Harlingen Health Care Center on May 8 from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm, and Corpus Christi West Point VA on May 15 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
The success of these gatherings was largely attributed to the generosity of VA staff and a myriad of community organizations. The Daughters of the American Revolution, Veteran Female United, and other groups contributed essential items like blankets and quilts. Notably, Jason's Deli provided delicious sandwiches for all attendees.
The Harlingen event welcomed five Veteran attendees, with three from the Navy and two from the Air Force. The Corpus Christi celebration saw seven Veterans in attendance, representing the Marines, Army, Navy, and Air Force. Special contributions and encouraging words came from Veteran Female United at the Harlingen event and the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary at the Corpus Christi event, showing a united front of support.
The events were deeply appreciated by all attendees, including Taylor Perry, a Veteran who attended the Corpus Christi event. Perry expressed heartfelt gratitude in a note: "Thank you so much for hosting a baby shower for us Veterans! I was so honored to be included and was so surprised by the amount of love and support I felt for not only myself but my baby! Thank you for all of the gifts from the VA and members of the community. I left feeling so grateful, happy, and excited with a trunk full of Baby 101 necessities! I loved meeting you all and my fellow Veterans. So again, thank you for your time and all the hard work that went into the event!"
These celebrations are not only a testament to the privilege and gratitude felt by the VA Health Care System but also exemplify a community effort to honor and support those who have served our country.
