Journey to Wellness: Inspiring Stories from Veterans and VA Staff - Featuring VA Staff Member Ramona Balsdon
Returning to work was a challenging transition for me. Shortly after resuming my duties, I made the decision to embark on my Whole Health journey. This initiative began with a commitment to prioritize my own well-being while continuing to provide exceptional care for the Veterans I serve.
By integrating healthy practices into my daily routine, I aimed to strengthen both my personal resilience and my ability to deliver compassionate, high-quality care to those who depend on us. The path to Whole Health was paved with various activities and treatments that proved effective in reducing stress and avoiding burnout. I found solace in participating in in-person yoga and sound bowl sessions, alongside invigorating kettlebell workouts. Online yoga classes were another source of relaxation and wellness, while the treadmill available at our station became a trusty companion in my journey to better health.
Since starting Whole Health back in April 2025, the benefits have been profound. I have lost 35 pounds, which not only represents a physical transformation but also symbolizes the positive changes within me. Whole Health isn’t just about physical fitness—it’s a holistic approach encompassing mental, emotional, and overall well-being.
Many employees might not realize how accessible these resources are. Yoga, mindfulness sessions, and sound therapy can significantly reduce stress and improve focus during the workday. Online options, such as virtual yoga classes, make it easy to participate even with a busy schedule. Additionally, incorporating movement—like using a treadmill at the station—can boost energy and support overall health.
