Native American Calling: Monday, November 11, 2013 Broadcast
You may have seen one of the many national campaigns to recruit veterans for jobs. In May, Wal-Mart announced a plan, to hire 100,000 veterans over the next five years. The Government Accountability Office (GAO) recently released a report on the Department of Labor's efforts to reach Native American veterans. According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, American Indian and Alaska Native veterans have the lowest rate of employment among ethnic minorities. What are the barriers for Native veterans when they look for a job? What kinds of programs are available for Native American veterans seeking employment? Guests include: Beverly Charley (Navajo) Local Veterans' Employment Representative, Farmington New Mexico Workforce Connections and Royse Cloud, Senior Advisor for Veteran Employment, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
