Citation Nr: 18143859 Decision Date: 10/23/18 Archive Date: 10/22/18 DOCKET NO. 17-17 276 DATE: October 23, 2018 REMANDED Entitlement to special monthly compensation (SMC) based on the need for regular aid and attendance or on account of being housebound. REASONS FOR REMAND The Veteran served on active duty with the United States Army from September 1978 to November 1981 and from September 2002 to February 2003, including service in Southwest Asia. Entitlement to special monthly compensation based on aid and attendance or housebound status is remanded. In September 2018, VA notified the Veteran that additional evidence in support of his appeal had been received since the issuance of a Statement of the Case in January 2017. Specifically, additional VA treatment records were received. In a response, dated the same month, the Veteran requested to remand the case to the agency of original jurisdiction (AOJ) for review of the additional evidence. Accordingly, this matter is REMANDED for the following action: 1. Review the newly received VA treatment records and develop the Veteran’s claims as appropriate. 2. Thereafter, readjudicate the issue on appeal. If the benefits sought are not granted, provide the Veteran a supplemental statement of the case and afford him an opportunity to respond before the record is returned to the Board for further review.
