Citation Nr: 18147985 Decision Date: 11/07/18 Archive Date: 11/06/18 DOCKET NO. 16-39 430 DATE: November 7, 2018 REMANDED Service connection for a right shoulder disorder is remanded. REASONS FOR REMAND In May 2014, the Veteran claimed service connection for a bilateral shoulder condition. In a March 2016 examination, the examiner opined that a left shoulder disorder was at least as likely as not incurred in or caused by his military service. However, the examiner did not opine as to the etiology of any right shoulder disorder. In a subsequent August 2016 lay statement, the Veteran said that he injured his right shoulder in the same in-service incident in which he incurred his service-connected left shoulder disability. Accordingly, he should be afforded another examination to determine the nature and etiology of any currently present right shoulder disorder, to specifically include whether his current right shoulder disorder is related to service. The matter is REMANDED for the following action: Schedule the Veteran for an examination to determine the nature and etiology of any current right shoulder disorder. The claims file must be made available to, and reviewed by, the examiner. All indicated studies should be performed. Based on the examination results and review of the record, the examiner should provide an opinion as to whether it is at least as likely as not (a 50 percent probability or greater) that the Veteran’s right shoulder disorder is related to his active service. In forming the opinion, the examiner should address the Veteran’s August 2016 lay statement. The rationale for all opinions should be provided.
