Citation Nr: 18150957 Decision Date: 11/16/18 Archive Date: 11/16/18 DOCKET NO. 16-39 177 DATE: November 16, 2018 REMANDED Entitlement to a compensable disability rating for service-connected malaria. REASONS FOR REMAND The Veteran served on active duty from May 1969 to December 1970. This matter comes before the Board of Veterans’ Appeals (Board) from a September 2, 2015 rating decision from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Regional office (RO) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Compensable Disability Rating for Malaria The Veteran is currently service connected for malaria with a noncompensable (0 percent) disability rating. He has requested a higher rating. During the course of the appeal, the Veteran’s representative has alleged there has been a worsening of the condition since the July 2015 VA examination, and that a new examination is warranted. Since the July 2015 VA examination, the Veteran reported in his notice of disagreement that he has recurrent cold sweats and chills that he relates to his malaria. These symptoms were not noted in the July 2015 VA examination. Therefore, a new examination is warranted to assess the current nature and severity of the Veteran’s service-connected malaria. The matter is REMANDED for the following action: Schedule the Veteran for an examination to determine the current severity of his service-connected malaria. The examiner should provide a full description of the disability and report all signs and symptoms necessary for evaluating the Veteran’s disability under the rating criteria. K. J.
