Citation Nr: 20042784 Decision Date: 06/24/20 Archive Date: 06/24/20 DOCKET NO. 12-04 452 DATE: June 24, 2020 REMANDED Entitlement to a disability evaluation in excess of 10 percent for service-connected right wrist strain with joint pain and decreased range of motion is remanded. REASONS FOR REMAND The Veteran served on active duty from August 1984 to March 1990. This matter again comes before the Board of Veterans’ Appeals (Board) on appeal from a January 2011 rating decision issued by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Regional Office (RO) in Houston, Texas. The Veteran testified before the undersigned Veterans Law Judge (VLJ) via videoconference in November 2015; a transcript is of record. The Board previously remanded this matter in July 2016 and November 2019. Unfortunately, another remand is required. Ankylosis is defined as "immobility and consolidation of a joint due to disease, injury, or surgical procedure." Dorland's Illustrated Medical Dictionary, 94 (32nd ed. 2012). On March 23, 2020, the Veteran’s right wrist disability was examined by a private physician. During this examination, the examiner noted that the Veteran exhibited unfavorable ankylosis at 10 degrees of palmar flexion. However, the examiner also noted that the Veteran exhibited dorsiflexion of the right wrist to 25 degrees, which is inconsistent with a finding of ankylosis of the wrist in palmar flexion. Therefore, the Veteran should be scheduled for a VA examination on remand to determine whether he has any ankylosis of his right wrist. The matters are REMANDED for the following action: 1. Obtain the Veteran’s updated VA treatment records. 2. Schedule the Veteran for an examination to determine whether he has any ankylosis of his right wrist, and if so, whether favorable or unfavorable, with appropriate measurements recorded. P.M. DILORENZO Veterans Law Judge Board of Veterans’ Appeals Attorney for the Board S. Seserman The Board’s decision in this case is binding only with respect to the instant matter decided. This decision is not precedential and does not establish VA policies or interpretations of general applicability. 38 C.F.R. § 20.1303.
