Citation Nr: 21021005 Decision Date: 04/09/21 Archive Date: 04/09/21 DOCKET NO. 17-08 163 DATE: April 9, 2021 REMANDED Entitlement to a total disability rating based on individual unemployability (TDIU) is remanded. REASONS FOR REMAND The Veteran served on active duty from January 2001 to January 2005. This matter is on appeal to the Board of Veterans’ Appeals (Board) from a January 2017 rating decision issued by a Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Regional Office (RO). The Veteran testified at a hearing with the undersigned in March 2020. The case was remanded for additional development in September 2020. Subsequently, the RO granted service connection for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) fully satisfying the appeal as to the other issue remanded by the Board. The Veteran asserts that he is unable to secure and follow a substantially gainful occupation as a result of his service-connected disabilities. The Veteran has given a somewhat inconsistent history regarding past work. At his March 2020 hearing before the undersigned, the Veteran testified that he had not worked or been employed since 2012. See March 2020 Hearing Transcript. In his application for TDIU he reported last working full time in December 2014, but regarding his past 5 years of work history stated that his most recent job, with Delta Airlines, ended in 2012. When applying for SSA disability benefits he noted last working full time in December 2014. In July 2019, the Veteran told VA he was employed by Delta Airlines. In July 2020, he told a VA psychiatrist he was unemployed; however, three days later he informed a VA nurse that he was currently missing work due to an injury he incurred while working out. See July 17 and 20, 2020 VA Treatment Notes. In January 2021, the Veteran stated he stopped working in December 2020 due to an exacerbation of his PTSD symptoms. As treatment records suggest the Veteran recently ended employment due to an exacerbation of symptoms related to his service-connected PTSD, remand is necessary for an additional examination. Information regarding employment should be obtained from the Veteran on remand. The matter is REMANDED for the following action: 1. Send the Veteran a VA Form 21-8940 with instructions to complete that form and return it to VA. Undertake any necessary development as a result of the information provided by the Veteran. 2. Then, schedule the Veteran for a VA PTSD examination to determine the current symptoms, level of severity, and functional impairment associated with his PTSD.
