REMANDED

Entitlement to a rating higher than 30 percent for service-connected adjustment disorder with mixed emotions is remanded.

REASONS FOR REMAND

The Veteran served on active duty from February 1969 to August 1970.

This matter comes before Board of Veterans' Appeals (Board) on appeal from a September 2012 rating decision issued by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Regional Office (RO).

The Veteran's VA records for the past few years have noted a mental health follow-up is "in progress."  It is not clear whether the Veteran has been receiving mental health treatment and, if so, where.  He should be asked to clarify this.   

The Veteran was last afforded a VA examination in May 2010, over 11 years ago. A new VA examination is necessary to determine the current severity of this disability.

The matters are REMANDED for the following action:

1. Send the Veteran a letter requesting that he provide sufficient information, and, if necessary, authorization to enable the RO to obtain any outstanding, pertinent mental health records. Associate any records received, including negative responses, with the claims file.

2. Schedule the Veteran for an appropriate VA examination to ascertain the current severity and manifestations of his service-connected adjustment disorder with mixed emotions.
