Washington DC VA Medical Center Dental Department opened a new Dental Clinic at the Charlotte Hall Community-Based Outpatient Clinic on Oct. 21, 2022.

The new location offers a shorter drive time to many Veterans living in Maryland, and access to state-of-the-art care by providing:

  • Digital Radiographs
  • Digital Impressions
  • Same day digitally milled ceramic restorations and crowns
  • Examinations
  • Dental Oral cancer screenings
  • Dental prophylaxis and fluoride application
  • Restorations
  • Crown and bridge
  • Root canal therapy
  • Sleep apnea treatment
  • Periodontal treatment
  • Temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD) treatment
  • Implant evaluation and work-up

Chief of Dental Service, Trina Jones-Richardson, DDS., said the new facility is the product of two years of hard work, collaboration, and support from several services at the Washington DC VA Medical Center.

“So many departments and people came together to play a part in this success story,” she said. “And finally, this past Thursday, we were able to treat our first patient. It was an exciting day for our team!”

The clinic was scheduled to open Friday, Oct. 21, and contacted Army Veteran George Durgin about being their first patient when they saw that he was scheduled in another location, farther from home. Durgin was unable to switch his appointment from Thursday to Friday, so the Charlotte Hall Dental Team opened a day earlier to accommodate the Veteran.

“It was so nice that they took the time to call and offer me a more convenient appointment, but they really went above and beyond from there,” said Durgin. “The experience was exceptional, the location so convenient and the staff was friendly and kind from the second they called, to the moment they walked me up to the front desk to schedule my next appointment in six months.”

Durgin was the first patient to be treated at the new dental facility and was extremely satisfied with the care he received. As a retired Veteran and a 16-year employee of the public health service, he believes that VA always bends over backwards to provide health care to Veterans.

“I can’t sing their praises enough,” said Durgin. “I will always choose VA for all of my health care needs because of their dedication to us Veterans.”
