Coming Soon to Your DC VA Waiting Room: VA Mobile Check-in

Blue Box with smart phone graphic and text that reads Coming Soon: Simplify Your VA Appointments with New Pre-Check In and Mobile Check-In Tools.

VA is modernizing the way you check in for an outpatient appointment!

Why are we introducing Mobile Check-in?

Based on extensive feedback from Veterans and caregivers, VA created a patient check-in application (PCI) to offer you an efficient, safe, and convenient way to prepare for your medical appointment. This PCI has been designed for Veterans, by Veterans, and tested at every step for ease of use and accessibility for those who rely on assistive technology.

How does it work?

On August 1, 2022, Washington DC VA Medical Center will begin offering pre-check in and mobile check-in for Veterans receiving care at the Yellow, Orange, Red and Green Primary Care Clinics, the Optometry and Liver Clinics and at all community-based outpatient clinics. Here is how it works:

Pre-Check In allows you to review your demographic information (contact information, next of kin, emergency contact) up to seven days before your appointment using a link that VA will text you once your appointment is confirmed. Please Note: To use pre-check in, you must be enrolled in VEText. If you’ve opted out of text appointment reminders, you can restart by using the phone number listed in your VA records to text “START” to 53079 or by replying to any previous text message from VA. If you need to update your phone number, please check-in with staff at your next appointment to update your contact information.

Mobile Check-In allows you to skip the line at the desk by checking in with your smartphone at participating clinics.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Go to the waiting room of the service you are scheduled to see and look for the poster that says ‘Have an appointment? Check in with your phone’
  2. Scan the QR code or text ‘check-in’ to the phone number on the poster
  3. Wait for a text message with a link. If you did not complete pre-check in, you will be asked to review your demographic information. If you need to make changes to your information, please see the check-in desk. Otherwise, click the blue ‘check-in now’ button and have a seat. A staff member will come and get you shortly.

You will always be able to check-in with a staff member if you do not have a smart phone or prefer to speak to someone. If you have questions about the new mobile check-in process, please ask a staff-member.
