DC VA Medical Center to Host Winterhaven Homeless Veterans Stand Down November 1, 2025

VA Social Workers partner to provide unsheltered and at-risk Veterans in the DC area with health care, VA benefits assistance, and community resources.

The annual Winterhaven Homeless Veterans Stand Down is being hosted at the Washington DC VA Medical Center, 50 Irving Street, NW, on Saturday, November 1, 2025, 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. The day-long event brings together VA employees, volunteers and community partners to offer immediate assistance, services and resources to unsheltered and at-risk Veterans throughout the District of Columbia, Northern Virginia, and areas of Maryland. DC VA Medical Center Social Workers and Peer Support Teams are continuing to work with local shelters as well as traveling to local neighborhoods identifying Veterans to pair with VA health care, benefits and services and local resources.  

Through local and national partnerships, donations, and volunteerism, the VA homeless Veterans outreach event is a one-stop resource which specifically offers health care assessments, preventative care screening, immunizations, VA benefits and claims assistance, housing and unemployment counseling, legal aid, IRS tax support, social services, coats, shoes and boots, personal care kits, a warm meal and much more. The event demonstrates VA’s commitment to “Partner to End and Prevent Homelessness, One Veteran at a Time.”  With 30 participating federal, state, and local agencies and community organizations prepared to offer services on Saturday, November 1, the Department of Veterans Affairs is focused on ending homelessness and continues to provide local services for impacted Veterans at the VA Community Resource and Referral Center, 1500 Franklin Street, NE, Washington, DC, 202-745-3012, ext. 8.

Important Event Logistics

DC VA Medical Center shuttle service is provided to and from DC shelters. Free VA shuttle transportation is also available from Metro Stations:

Brookland/CUA & Union Station. Public Transportation is also available, Metro bus C61 from Tenley Town or Brookland, and Metro bus D30 from Union Station to the event at DC VA Medical Center, 50 Irving Street, NW.
