Speech-Language Pathology Clinical Fellowship & Residency Year
The West Palm Beach Veteran Healthcare System (WPB VAHCS) first received funding from Central Office’s Office of Academic Affiliations (OAA) in 2015 and has provided training to Speech Pathologists during their Clinical Fellowship year since. All mentors at the WPB VAHCS hold American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) certification. In 2026, the WPB VAHCS Speech Pathology service began pursuing Academy of Neurologic Communication Disorders & Sciences Board of Residency Education (ANCDS-BRE) accreditation.
The WPB VAHCS Speech Pathology residency provides opportunities to work with a broad range of communication, swallowing, and cognitive disorders across a variety of patient populations and age groups.
Per ANCDS requirements, there will be a focus on evaluation and treatment of neuro-communication disorders, continuing education, didactics, and clinical case study presentation(s).
The position is a temporary appointment lasting 12 months with a salary and benefits (medical, dental, and vision insurance). During the fellowship, residents complete the requirements for a Certificate of Clinical Competence for ASHA. Once ANCDS-BRE accreditation is obtained, residents who complete the WPB VAHCS Speech Pathology residency will have the opportunity to apply for ANCDS board certification after 3 years of clinical practice.
Applications are accepted in Winter. Residency start dates in Summer/Fall.
Requirements:
According to VA policy, OAA funding may only be provided to those who are U.S. citizens and have received their Masters or Doctoral degree in Speech-Language Pathology. Males born after December 31st, 1959 must have registered for the draft by age 26.
