Researchers at the VA Western New York Healthcare System (VAWNYHS) are seeking Veterans to take part in two studies.

The Department of Pulmonary Medicine is seeking Veterans with smoking related lung diseases, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).  The study will investigate why patients with COPD have an increased risk of pneumonia with one of the inhaled medications, then patients with other diseases who use the same medication. For more information, contact the Research Nurse Coordinator at 716-862-6092 or 716-862-7378.

The Departments of Infectious Diseases and Pulmonary Medicine are seeking Gulf War Veterans to take part in a research study investigating the underlying causes of respiratory illnesses in Veterans, related to Gulf War exposure, compared to Veterans of the Gulf War who did not develop respiratory illnesses. The goal is to develop therapies to treat Veterans with Gulf War-related medical problems.

Gulf War Veterans interested in taking part in the study can call 716-862-6092 or 716-862-6529 or stop by in person at the VAWNYHS, 3495 Bailey Avenue, Buffalo, NY 14215, Room 829B during business hours, Monday – Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Volunteers will be compensated for their time and travel.
