Dr. George Martinez, Supportive Care Provider in the Dole VA Community Living Center, was recently recognized with the Patient Safety Good Catch Award.

Good Catch awards are given by Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN) 15 each quarter for actions taken by a staff member who observed or participated in circumstances that could have caused harm but, because of actions taken by the employee, harm was avoided. VISN 15 covers VA medical facilities in Kansas, Missouri, and parts of Illinois.

Dr. Martinez’s diligence and situational awareness expedited continuous care for a critically ill Veteran whose community care consult had mistakenly been canceled. Dr. Martinez’s quick action not only helped this Veteran, but it also highlighted an issue that could adversely affect all Veterans.

The leadership and staff of Robert J. Dole VAMC are proud of all our clinicians for their dedication to keeping Veterans safe.
