Summary
The VA Office of Inspector General (OIG) conducted a review to evaluate selected health care facility operations, focusing on patient care quality and the environment of care. The facility’s reported accomplishments were opening the first equipment processing center in the Veterans Health Administration for reprocessing non-critical reusable medical equipment and helping to develop the first advanced environmental control units for veterans with severe disabilities. OIG made recommendations for improvement in all eight of the following activities: (1) quality management, (2) environment of care, (3) medication management, (4) coordination of care, (5) magnetic resonance imaging safety, (6) acute ischemic stroke care, (7) surgical complexity, and (8) emergency airway management.
