Summary

Summary
The VA Office of Inspector General (OIG) conducted a review to evaluate selected health care facility operations, focusing on patient care quality and the environment of care. During the review, OIG provided crime awareness briefings to 563 employees. This review focused on eight operational activities. The facility complied with selected standards in the following three activities: (1) coordination of care, (2) computed tomography radiation monitoring, and (3) advance directives. The facility’s reported accomplishments were receiving the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association gold award and the Fine Awards Teamwork Excellence in Health Care platinum award from the Jewish Healthcare Foundation in partnership with The Fine Foundation. OIG made recommendations for improvement in the following five activities: (1) quality management, (2) environment of care, (3) medication management, (4) surgical complexity, and (5) emergency airway management.
