Mr. Michael K. Lucas was appointed as the Assistant Director for the Amarillo VA Health Care System December 2022.
In this capacity, Mr. Lucas is based in Lubbock and is responsible for Amarillo’s four Community-based Outpatient Clinics in Lubbock, Clovis, Childress and Dalhart. His two previous assignments were as Resource Manager for Sierra Army Depot and Chief Fiscal Officer for the Amarillo VA Health Care System.
Prior to his federal civil service career, Mr. Lucas served nearly 29 years in the U.S. Navy as a Supply Corps Officer, retiring as a CAPTAIN in 2013. During his Navy career, he served afloat on board submarines, surface combatants and aircraft carriers. Ashore, Mr. Lucas served in a variety of billets including Presidential Food Service Coordinator for both President Bush and President Clinton at The White House. Mr. Lucas was qualified as a Navy Supply Corps Submariner, Naval Aviation Supply Officer, and Supply Corps Surface Warfare Officer.
Mr. Lucas holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Old Dominion University, a Master of Business Administration (Finance) from the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business and is a graduate of Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management’s Advance Executive Program. He is a Certified Professional Accountant licensed by the state of Virginia, is a certified Level III Department of Defense Financial Manager, is a Certified Defense Financial Manager (CDFM) and is a member of the Acquisition Professional Community.
