Atlanta VAHCS to host Sepsis Awareness Month Event
PRESS RELEASE
September 23, 2024
Decatur , GA — The Atlanta VA Health Care System will host an event to raise awareness about sepsis—a life-threatening condition that arises when the body’s response to an infection injures its own tissues and organs.
The facility has launched a new initiative, Crush 33, which mobilizes a team of clinicians to swiftly address all components of sepsis. It was designed to provide early interventions for Veterans showing signs and symptoms of sepsis or severe septic shock. When a Crush 33 is activated, emergency room nurses, physicians, critical care nurses, and registered respiratory therapists respond to deliver urgent care.
This Sepsis Awareness Month event showcases the power of collective efforts and creativity in raising awareness about sepsis. “This event demonstrates how everyone can contribute to a critical cause. Convening, sharing knowledge, and supporting survivors, are significant steps toward preventing and fighting sepsis,” said Dr. Susan Roberts, Atlanta VA Nurse Professional Development Specialist.
The event is scheduled for Monday, September 30, in the Atlanta VAMC Pete Wheeler Auditorium from 1:00 pm to 2:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. All Veterans, caregivers, and family members are encouraged to attend.
