Help save a life during National Volunteer Blood Donor Month
Donating blood is giving life!
January marks National Volunteer Blood Donor Month and highlights the importance of donating blood.
Gwen Ramos, Atlanta VA Healthcare System Center for Development and Civic Engagement (CDCE) chief, says the goal of the month-long observance is to raise awareness about how blood donation delivers significant benefits to donors and recipients, improves overall health, and ultimately saves lives. Ramos noted how CDCE regularly partners with community blood collection such as Blood Assurance, Life South, and American Red Cross to host blood drives.
“We want to thank all of our generous donors for their lifesaving gift,” said Ramos. “In the new year, we should all resolve to become regular blood donors and there’s no better time to start than during National Blood Donor Month.”
One Army Veteran who regularly donates blood said he is committed to giving even more in 2024.
“I believe that giving blood is the one of the easiest things I can do to give back to my community and make a difference in others' lives,” said the Veteran, who received blood after being wounded while serving in Afghanistan.
Atlanta VAHCS’s 2024 schedule for hosting on-site blood drives at various locations will be published soon.
