Earlier this summer Joe, a vision impaired athlete, was the victim of random gun violence and suffered a gunshot wound while out for a morning walk.
“I was in shock when I heard the shots and got down. I just wanted to be safe. As I moved to get up, I realized I had been hit from the random bullets. I called for help and was glad someone came to assist me. I am lucky to be alive. I am just thankful!”
He was hospitalized for several weeks and says he was glad he was still able to attend the NVGAG because he was looking forward to it.
An avid athlete, Joe received the gold medal in blind disc golf and silver in cornhole toss and horseshoes.
