Hosting Veteran food distributions in various locations is an example of the AVAHCS commitment to implementing solutions to addressing pervasive food security” says Dr. Anthony Cooper, AVAHCS, Chief, Center of Development and Civic Engagement.

The national nonprofit Soldiers’ Angels teamed up with Atlanta United to distribute supplemental food assistance to 250 Veteran families at three locations throughout the Atlanta area. On August 26, the organizations provided pre-registered Veteran families with food, including fresh fruits and vegetables, meats and non-perishables.

“Hosting Veteran food distributions in various locations is an example of the Atlanta VA Health Care System’s (AVAHCS) commitment to implementing solutions to addressing pervasive food security within subpopulations of Veterans which are often at a greater risk of hunger” says Dr. Anthony Cooper, AVAHCS, Chief, Center of Development and Civic Engagement.

While Soldiers’ Angles hosts monthly food distributions at the Atlanta VA Clinic, the August 26 event is expanded to the Covington and Fort McPherson VA clinics, and is the result of Atlanta United’s commitment to reach more Veterans throughout the region.

“We are thrilled to be working with Atlanta United to further support our veteran families,” said Amy Palmer, President & CEO of Soldiers’ Angels. “Our monthly Veteran Food Distribution program distributed more than 1.5 million pounds of food in 2021 alone. Thanks to Atlanta United and other organizations committed to giving back to their communities, we hope to ensure that those who sacrificed for our nation don’t have to worry about putting food on their families’ dinner tables.”

“We’re excited to expand this year’s food distribution to three locations across the city,” said Atlanta United Vice President of Business Operations Georgia O’Donoghue. “Serving our military community is a pillar of the club’s community outreach, and we are thrilled to team up with Soldiers’ Angels and deliver food at no-cost to deserving Veterans and their families.”

Volunteers from AMBSE Associates, Global Payments Volunteers (Sponsor), Atlanta United FC supporter groups and Atlanta United Academy Players assisted with the project.
