Updated masking policy

Masking update
AVAHCS Masking Update
By Derrick Smith, Public Affairs Officer

Mask usage is limited to certain areas of AVAHCS facilities.

The Atlanta VA Healthcare System wants to inform you of the new changes to our mask policy which have been in effect since June 5, 2023.

All health protection levels (red/yellow/green) require universal masking for patients, staff, and visitors in the Emergency Department, Infusion Clinic, and Dialysis Clinic. Universal masking is also encouraged for all patient care areas at the CBOCs, especially those with high-risk patients.

In common areas such as elevators, hallways, cafeterias, and areas where patient care does not occur, wearing a face mask is optional for both staff and visitors. It is still mandatory to wear a face mask if you have symptoms of respiratory illness or known exposure to COVID-19. Lastly, appropriate PPE (N95/eye protection/gown/gloves) must be worn by employees caring for patients suspected or confirmed to have COVID-19.

Thank you for being attentive and taking preventive measures seriously.
