“I was always stuck by how kind and good natured he was every time I saw him,” said Secretary McDonough. “His highest aspiration was to serve as chairman of the Veteran Affairs Committee.

The Atlanta VA Regional Office was renamed today in honor of the late Senator Johnny Isakson. Denis McDonough, Secretary of Veterans Affairs, took part in the renaming ceremony on March 25, 2024.

“I was always stuck by how kind and good natured he was every time I saw him,” said Secretary McDonough. “His highest aspiration was to serve as chairman of the Veteran Affairs Committee. Thanks to him, Veterans can access quality mental health care without stigma or shame thanks to the passage of the Clay Hunt Suicide Prevention for American Veterans Act, Sen. Isakson’s first piece of legislation as the chairman of that committee.”

An Air National Guard Veteran, Sen. Isakson helped pass several pieces of legislation to ensure Veterans received quality care they deserve.

Sen. Isakson’s family, along with US Senator Jon Ossoff, US Representative Sanford Bishop and others shared remarks at the event.

During the media availability following the event, Secretary McDonough announced Mr. Kai Mentzer would be the next Medical Center Director of the Atlanta VA Health Care System.
