Veterans Transportation Service (VTS)
Special Mode Transportation
The Department of Veterans Affairs has a nationally funded program to hire special contractors to transport Veterans with complex medical needs. This could be for a patient who needs to be transported via a stretcher van, special ambulance, or even a last-minute air-ambulance flight across the country for a transplant!
To initiate a transportation request, a medical provider must place a “Beneficiary Travel (BT)” consult in the patient’s chart.
The dispatch team will act upon the consult, depending on the special needs of the Veteran. Strict eligibility requirements apply. The contractor can only transport a Veteran and one caregiver, no excess equipment, luggage, or multiple visitors.
There is no cost to the Veteran, if the transportation is arranged by our offices. Bills are sent straight to our offices. Call us with any questions at: 706-733-0188, ext. 28004.
Beneficiary travel
Beneficiary travel benefits include round-trip transportation from your home to the medical center, mileage reimbursement, or special mode transport.
