VA Augusta ceremony to celebrate donation of robotic exoskeleton to Spinal Cord Injury Unit

VA Augusta HealthCare System will celebrate the donation of an Ekso Indego Therapy robotic exoskeleton to its Spinal Cord Injury Unit during a ceremony at 11 a.m., April 26, at its downtown campus at 950 15th Street in Augusta.

SoldierStrong, a nonprofit dedicated to improving Veterans’ lives through technology and innovative technology, purchased the exoskeleton to strengthen VA Augusta’s cutting-edge therapy programs with disabled and paralyzed Veterans. The ceremony will include a brief demonstration of the exoskeleton. Media are invited to attend.

“SoldierStrong’s generous donation will transform the lives of our Veterans in both the home and community settings,” said Robert Reeder, Associate Director at the VA Augusta Health Care System. “These clinically proven robotic exoskeleton devices enable our nation’s heroes to stand and walk again. The lightweight, modular design and slim profile are compatible with most wheelchairs which makes it a game changer for a lot of paralyzed or disabled Veterans.”

VA Augusta Health Care System is home to one of the region’s leading spinal cord injury units, providing cutting-edge, compassionate care to Veterans across the Southeast, as well as partnering with neighboring academic institutions and health care systems in conducting research and developing spinal cord injury best practices.

Ekso Indego Therapy is a customizable and FDA-cleared lower-limb powered exoskeleton worn around the waist and legs that enables individuals paralyzed from spinal cord injuries and stroke to stand and walk and offers clinicians the ability to provide highly individualized gait therapy.
