Augusta VA’s massive job fair attracts more than 800 applicants
More than 800 members of community attended the recent job fair held at the Augusta VA Health Care System’s uptown campus.
Applicants eager to work received job offers throughout the day, filling old vacancies as well as making room for new ones. The massive hiring effort resulted in nearly 200 same-day job offers.
“We were excited to see the amount of nurse practitioners and laborers with specialized skills apply,” said Tom Mathews, who served as project manager for the event.
Augusta VA filled positions across several services, including medical support assistants, program support clerks, nursing assistants, and housekeeping aid positions.
“This is the first job fair of its kind at our VA,” said Dr. Robin Jackson, Medical Center Director. “We incorporated as much human resource functions as possible during the event to increase efficiency and access opportunities while folks were on site.”
To date, Augusta VA had made 191 job offers, completed 51 physical examinations, fingerprinted 78 applicants, and enrolled another 58 for background checks and counting.
Augusta VA Health Care System employs many Veterans, with over a third of its workforce having served in the Armed Forces.
“I am proud of the team of employees, volunteers, and community members who supported this event,” Jackson said. “The results speak for themselves, but I want to thank the community for their engagement and willingness to serve the heroes among us, our nation’s Veterans.”
