The DAISY Nurse Leader Award is among the highest recognitions a nursing professional can receive. It recognizes nurses who are extraordinary in the impact they have on high-quality, compassionate patient care.

Candice Harris, a VA Augusta nurse manager who has served Veterans on the Medical Surgery Inpatient Unit since 2018, was presented in late January with the DAISY Nurse Leader Award for her professionalism and genuine care for the wellbeing of the Veterans under her care.

“Mrs. Harris embodies what nurse leadership Is supposed to be with her care and concern for both her staff and patients,” said Judian McDowell, who nominated Harris last September. “She remains a staunch advocate for process improvement. She provides a safe space for nurses that are detailed to her unit to practice, and she is an active participant in every initiative in the development of better care.”

Harris came to VA Augusta Health Care System as a valor student and chose to stay on as a full-time member of our nursing team. Thank you, Candice, for your dedication to providing the best care possible to our Veterans.
