Bay Pines VA to Participate in DEA Drug Take Back Day

PRESS RELEASE

October 25, 2022

BAY PINES , FL — On Oct. 29, the Bay Pines VA Healthcare System (BPVAHCS) will participate in the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) National Prescription Take Back Day.

This event reflects DEA’s commitment to Americans’ safety and health, encouraging the public to remove unneeded medications from their homes as a measure of preventing medication misuse and opioid addiction from ever starting.

“By simply disposing of unused medications appropriately, we can each do our part to make a profound impact on our communities,” said Paul M. Russo, Director/CEO, BPVAHCS. “We are proud to participate in this National Prescription Take Back Day and will continue to seize every opportunity to support the well-being of our Veterans and the local community.”

Bay Pines VA will provide two drop off locations for Veterans and the general public. The drop off locations will be the screening tent at the east gate of the C.W.Y VA Medical Center (10000 Bay Pines Boulevard, Bay Pines, FL 33744) and the main entrance of the Lee County Healthcare Center (2489 Diplomat Parkway East Cape Coral, FL 33909). Both locations will have safe and secure drop-off bins. Expired prescriptions, including controlled substances, can be disposed of at either location from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Veterans who are enrolled in BPVAHCS can also bring expired and unused medications to either site for disposal at any time by dropping off the medications at the blue drop-off bins. On the C.W.Y campus, there are two bins located at bldg. 100. One is near the Emergency Room entrance and the other is near the Outpatient Entrance. At the Lee County Healthcare Center, there is one bin located by the main entrance of the facility.

In addition to Bay Pines VA’s drop off locations, the DEA also has other sites across the state of Florida. More locations can be found by using the DEA’s search tool: https://www.dea.gov/takebackday.
