Dr. Bloom-Charette is a staff geropsychologist in the Community Living Center and Geriatric Evaluation and Management Unit (GEM).
Dr. Bloom-Charette is a licensed clinical psychologist and has her MA from Temple University in Community Psychology and her MS/Ph.D. from Nova Southeastern University.
She completed her internship at the Brockton/West Roxbury VA Hospital (now Boston Healthcare). She completed her post doctoral fellowship in long term care as a Clinical Associate for American Geriatrics(now Arbour Geriatrics)
She started the geropsychology training program with one practicum student in 1992 . Since that time the program has grown to five geropsychologists, two practicum students, an intern and one post doctoral fellow. Since that time, s he has mentored and supervised over 100 trainees many of whom have been her colleagues and board certified in geropsychology. Her gerospychology career took a detour for a couple of years when she was assigned to the addictions program and developed a specialty of addictions in the older individual. Currently she works in the Community Living Center and Geriatric Evaluation and Management Unit (GEM) supervising all levels of clinical training. She is also the coordinator for the Practicum Training program.
She is the co-editor of the book: Enhancing the Quality of Life in Advanced Dementia and various articles in gerospychology. She also has participated in various local and national presentations. Currently her clinical interests are in Evidenced Based Practice with the older adults : CBT-Chronic Pain; CBT-Insomnia; CBT-Nightmares and Social Skills Training. She was also part of the initial pilot program for STAR VA and has helped integrate that program into the culture of the Community Living Center (CLC).
In her spare time, she enjoys traveling particularly going on cruises with her husband Michael. She also enjoys skiing, hiking, snowshoeing in the White Mountains and working out in her spare time. She is the proud mother of two adult daughters, a son-in-law as well as a granddog Frenchie named Ophelia.
