Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) Residency Program
The AEGD Residency Program is a comprehensive General Dentistry Program with advanced training in most aspects of dentistry.
Geriatric Physical Therapy Residency Program
This robust, year-long program is designed to offer the recently licensed Doctor of Physical Therapy an opportunity to advance their knowledge and skills in the area of geriatric specialty practice in preparation for Geriatric Clinical Specialist (GCS) certification through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS).

Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Residency Program
The mission of the Birmingham VA Health Care System (BVAHCS) and the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Nursing (UAB SON) Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Residency (MHNPR) is to enhance the competencies of MHNP residents and to prepare highly qualified leaders in an interprofessional environment with expertise in Veteran-centric care while emphasizing competency-based learning, quality improvement, and scholarship.

Neuropsychology Postdoctoral Fellowship
The Birmingham VA Medical Center (BVAMC) is excited to offer a Psychology Postdoctoral Fellowship Program in clinical neuropsychology. This is a 2-year fellowship with a training agenda consistent with the Division 40 and Houston Conference guidelines for specialty training in clinical neuropsychology. The program is a member of the Association for Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers (APPIC).
The BVAMC has a long history of APA-accredited clinical psychology internship and doctoral practicum student training. The fellow is involved in clinical training, research, and didactic experiences to develop advanced practice in clinical neuropsychology.

Optometry Residency Program
The Residency in Vision Rehabilitation with an emphasis in Low Vision Rehabilitation and Ocular Disease at the Birmingham VA Medical Center is a 52-week post-graduate clinical education program that currently offers two positions.
Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Residency Program
The Nurse Practitioner Residency (NPR) Program is designed to develop competent, confident, practice-ready nurse practitioners (NP) equipped with the knowledge and skills to address the specific needs of Veterans. The program will prepare the novice NP to function independently with confidence by expanding knowledge, skills, attitudes, values and norms associated with NP practice across various sites that focus on Veteran care. The NPR program fosters advanced practice professional role socialization and facilitate the NP’s journey toward population specific expertise.

Psychology Training Program
Birmingham VA currently offers an APA-accredited clinical psychology internship with 4 positions funded through VA as part of the UAB-BVAMC Consortium.
VA Technical Career Field (TCF) Program for students or recent graduates
The Technical Career Field (TCF) program offers two years of training in critically identified positions within specific career fields in accordance with VHA’s Succession Workforce Plan.
VA Quality Scholars (VAQS) Fellowship
VAQS is an Advanced Fellowship program supported by the Office of Academic Affiliations. This program has an inter-professional emphasis with physicians, doctoral-trained nurses, and pharmacists participating. During the two years, fellows focus on healthcare improvement research and scholarship, operations leadership, and teaching quality and safety.
