Prosthetic and Sensory Aids Designed for YOU

Ashely Cunningham, Air Force Veteran, with her family.
“I had no idea what kind of pump I wanted, so she broke down the different types and provided recommendations. I love mine. I have been exclusively nursing my son for 6 months now.” - Ashely Cunningham, Air Force Veteran

Women Veterans: You deserve the best prosthetic and sensory aids designed to fit your lifestyle and your body, based on your unique health care needs.

The term "prosthetic device" refers to any device that supports or replaces loss of a body part or function. VA offers comprehensive and advanced prosthetic devices, sensory aids, and rehabilitation services. Plus, we know that size and appearance matter. We’re further enhancing options so you can choose items that meet your personal style and body type.

In 2016, Heather Hale, an Air Force Veteran, was diagnosed with breast cancer. After a double mastectomy and multiple operations due to infections, she is in remission.

“I was going to do reconstructive surgery through VA, but given all the infections I had dealt with, I changed my mind. The VA provided me post-mastectomy items. I went in person to see the different prosthetic options, and I recommend others do the same to see what’s best for them. VA covered everything!”

Ashely Cunningham, also an Air Force Veteran, did not realize all that was available to her until she was pregnant and met with the VA’s Maternity Care Coordinator for the first time. She received nursing bras and a breast pump from VA.

“The Maternity Care Coordinator called me and broke down everything. I was even asked what kind of nursing bras I liked instead of just giving me whatever,” said Ashley. “I had no idea what kind of pump I wanted, so she broke down the different types and provided recommendations. I love mine. I have been exclusively nursing my son for 6 months now.”
