VA Central Iowa hosts PACT awareness meeting
VA Central Iowa hosted a PACT Act awareness meeting Thursday that saw 345 Veterans, family members, caregivers, and survivors attend to learn more about the new law that expands benefits for thousands of Iowa Veterans.
In addition, almost 300 Veterans were able to file claims at the event hosted at the South Des Moines Clinic near Southridge Mall.
Amy Kennebeck, medical center director, acting; and Traci Pinkston, director of the VBA regional office in Des Moines addressed the meeting.
“The PACT Act is a law that expands VA healthcare and benefits for Veterans exposed to burn pits, defoliants, and other toxic substances,” Kennebeck explained. “This law helps us provide generations of Veterans—and their survivors—with the care and benefits they’ve earned and deserve.”
The event was schedule to run from 5 to 8 p.m. but the huge Veteran turnout meant the event stayed open until 9:30.
