Dr. Banerjee is an Associate Professor of Neurology, in the division of Stroke and Cerebrovascular disorders at Medical University of South Carolina
He obtained his medical degree from B. J. Medical College, Gujarat University, India. He then attended graduate school and earned a Masters in Public Health in Epidemiology at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health in New York, NY, where he worked in the Northern Manhattan Stroke study (NOMASS) with a focus on diabetes as a risk factor for ischemic stroke. Subsequently, he pursued Internal Medicine internship followed by Neurology residency and Vascular Neurology fellowship at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, TX. He joined the Stroke division in Department of Neurology at MUSC in 2015. He is Medical Director, Quality for Neurosciences at MUSC, and also Program Director for the ACGME Vascular Neurology fellowship program. He maintains an active clinical practice through the University and MUSC Health's Telestroke Program.
His clinical research interests include cryptogenic stroke in young patients, telestroke outcomes, non-atherosclerotic causes of stroke such as cerebral venous sinus thrombosis, sickle cell disease and moyamoya synddrome. He is site principial investigator for several ongoing stroke randomized clinical trials and research studies.
