When you reach out to the Whole Health department at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Health Care System, you might have the privilege of encountering Brian Knight, one of the Whole Health nurses who pours his heart and soul into his work.

In just four short months, Knight has already profoundly impacted the lives of Veterans through his exceptional skills and heartfelt approach.

Knight's responsibilities as a Whole Health Nurse are threefold:

  • Providing Health coaching for Vets
  • Teaching Intro to Whole Health
  • Offering Battlefield Acupuncture for Vets

With his certifications, Knight possesses the knowledge and expertise to provide diverse therapeutic options to Veterans in need.

"I am honored to hold Nationally Board-Certified Health & Wellness Coach certifications. I completed my coach training through the Whole Health Coach training program. In addition, I am certified to provide Battlefield Acupuncture through the VA. I have also completed the year-long VA Calm program to become a certified mindfulness facilitator," says Knight.

At the VA, Whole Health means treating individuals rather than simply addressing their symptoms. According to the Whole Health Library on the VA's website, it is a comprehensive system that empowers and equips Veterans to take charge of their overall well-being actively.

Knight elaborates, "Whole Health empowers and equips Veterans to have control over their health, eliminating the need to rely solely on us for support or seek assistance after their health has been neglected for far too long. Furthermore, Whole Health offers alternative treatments and options for Veterans who prefer not to rely on medications or undergo surgeries."

When traditional medical treatments fall short, Knight's unique blend of skills offers a glimmer of hope for countless Veterans. "I have witnessed the restoration of hope," Knight said. "Many Veterans come to me as a last resort, having exhausted all other options. They believe they will endure a lifetime of pain or rely on medications. However, through Battlefield Acupuncture (BFA), Veterans can reduce their dependence on medications or even delay or prevent the need for surgery. With Health coaching, I have witnessed Veterans achieve their health goals with newfound support and accountability, which they were unable to attain on their own."

“Whole Health treatments have given me a sense of mobility and pain management I hadn't had before, without having to deal with prescriptions and such,” said U.S. Navy Veteran Amber Estrada.

As Brian Knight continues his journey with the Whole Health team, there is no doubt that his influence will reverberate throughout the Veteran community, assisting more individuals in holistically taking control of their health. His dedication to equipping and empowering Veterans promises to bring about lasting change, one person at a time.

"Since starting Battle Field Acupuncture treatments with Brian, I do feel pain relief,” said Estrada. Also, my sleep has improved, I have a better range of mobility, and I feel that my mood has slightly improved. I am very thankful for this new course of treatment for both Active Duty and Veterans.”

Knight's approach offers a refreshing, human-centered perspective. For Veterans and their families, he serves as a shining example of what modern, comprehensive health care should aspire to be. Whether through acupuncture, mindfulness practices, or coaching, Knight is setting a new standard in Veterans' healthcare—one that prioritizes meaningful interactions and addresses the needs of each Veteran.

If you are a Veteran looking for ways to improve your health, I encourage you to contact Brian Knight at 843-467-3515. He is a dedicated and compassionate nurse committed to helping Veterans take charge of their health.
