CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Ralph H. Johnson Fisher House has recently made waves in the medical community with its groundbreaking new analytics process. Not only have they successfully developed a local data reporting tool, but this innovative new tool has also become a national standard for tracking guest outcomes and improving the overall quality of service provides to Veterans and their families.

Phyllis Jones, the Chief of Data Development at the Ralph H. Johnson VAHCS, developed a dashboard admissions report that was recognized as a best practice and was adopted by seven other VA sites. The report is being developed to be accessible to all VA sites and will save an estimated five million dollars of annual out-of-pocket lodging expenses for Veterans and families nationwide.

“It is always wonderful when you develop a tool that assists staff and our Veterans with good outcomes,” Jones said. “This tool significantly impacts Veteran families with lodging accommodations when their Veteran loved one is admitted as an inpatient to a facility. This gives me a sense of pride to give back to those who gave to us.”

For those who may not be familiar, the Fisher House provides housing for military families who are receiving medical treatment. Their mission is to provide a "home away from home" for these families so that they can stay close to their loved ones during times of crisis.

“Recognition is always appreciated; however, the reward is the positive impact on our Veterans and their family members,” said Jones. “The feeling of making a difference and that I have done my job well to care for our Veterans.”

The development of this innovative new procedure is just one example of how the Fisher House and the Ralph H. Johnson VAHCS is committed to improving the lives of military families.

The Ralph H. Johnson Fisher House has served over 4000 families and saved them around three million dollars since its opening in Dec. 2018.

Overall, the Fisher House is an incredibly important organization that plays a vital role in supporting Veteran and military families. With their dedication to innovation and commitment to excellence, they are truly making a difference in the lives of those who need it most.
