Dr. Pamela Crary is the Acting Associate Director of Patient Care Services for the Jesse Brown VAMC.
Dr. Crary began her VA career in 2014 as a Nurse Scientist at the William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital and Clinics following many years in academia teaching nursing students at the BSN, MSN, DNP, and PhD levels in both clinical and didactic areas. She brings over 36 years of experience in the healthcare industry. Dr. Crary is a recent graduate of the Healthcare Leadership Development Program (2023) and prior graduate of the VISN 12 Leadership Development Program (2020). Most recently she served as the Acting Deputy Associate Director Patient Care Services at the Tomah VAMC in Tomah, WI. She is the Chief Nurse for Nursing Operations and Professional Practice at the Madison VAMC in Madison, WI where she oversees all aspects of Nursing Excellence including oversight of Magnet Accreditation, Nursing Research and Innovation, Nursing Evidence-Based Practice and Professional Practice Programs, Nursing Informatics, and Nurse Residency / VALOR Programs. She is the Integrated Ethics Program Officer for the facility and the Nursing Clinical Training Coordinator working with schools of nursing on clinical placement and experiences at the Madison VA. She takes on acting roles as the DADPCS and ADPCS as needed. In addition, she coaches and mentors other VA facilities on their journey toward ANCC Pathways to Excellence and Magnet Designation. Dr. Crary is a current member/chair on both national and VISN committees providing insight toward nursing research, evidence- based practice, and nursing excellence initiatives across the VA. Dr. Crary holds a BSN, MSN, and PhD in Nursing from the University of Wisconsin – Madison. People describe her as a genuinely authentic and serving leader.
