Myhaver Named Medical Center Director of Truman VA

Columbia , MO — The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Christopher Myhaver, MHA, FACHE, as medical center director of Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans' Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. Myhaver will replace Truman VA’s former director, Patricia Hall, PhD, FACHE, who recently was selected to serve as director of VA Heartland Network – VISN 15.

The VA Heartland Network is one of 18 veteran integrated service networks (VISN) across the country. VISN 15 is made up of seven health care systems, to include Truman VA and eight other VA medical centers, as well as 63 community-based outpatient clinics within the states of Missouri, Kansas, Illinois, Kentucky, Indiana, and Arkansas.

“We are very excited to welcome Mr. Myhaver as Truman VA’s new medical center director,” Hall said. “His sound leadership qualities and proven experience will be valuable assets for the health care system, and will benefit staff, volunteers, and most importantly, the Veterans we are honored to serve. We anticipate he will begin his appointment on April 9.”

Myhaver has served as interim medical center director of Veterans Health Care System of the Ozarks in Fayetteville, Arkansas, since May 2022. Prior to this role, he was associate director of the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston. As associate director, Mr. Myhaver provided critical oversight and management of administrative hospital operations to include Health Administration Services, Logistics, Nutrition and Food Service, Pharmacy, Privacy Office, Prosthetics, Veterans Experience Office, Veteran Canteen Service, and the Office of Information Technology, as well as Purchasing and Contracting.

Mr. Myhaver’s other leadership experiences include serving as deputy executive director of Business Operations and Administration in the VHA Office of Care in the Community. In this role, he was responsible for providing oversight for the administrative and support services for the Office of Community Care. This includes oversight of policy and planning, equal employment opportunity, communications, congressional correspondence, and the financial management and execution of an approximately $14 billion annual Community Care budget.

Mr. Myhaver joined VA in 2004 as a PRIME resident at the South Texas Veterans Health Care System. In 2005, he became an administrative resident at the VA North Texas Health Care System as a part of the Graduate Health Administrative Trainee Program. Mr. Myhaver later served in leadership roles at the VA North Texas Healthcare System, Grand Junction VAMC, Overton Brooks VAMC, and El Paso VA Health Care System. At the VA Central Office level, Mr. Myhaver worked as director of Community Care Claims Adjudication and Reimbursement (CAR). In this role, he was responsible for administering VA health care benefits for veterans and family members for CHAMPVA, spina bifida health care, Children of Women Vietnam Veterans Program, Caregiver Support Program, Foreign Medical Program, VA Community Care, and Camp Lejeune Family Member Program.

Mr. Myhaver received a Master of Science degree in health care administration from Trinity University in San Antonio and a Bachelor of Science degree in community health from Texas A&M University in College Station. He also is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
