Your Privacy is Important
We live in a time when advanced technology and sophisticated efforts by nefarious individuals and groups to misuse acquired personal and/or health information from unsuspecting innocent individuals is prevalent.
If you are a Veteran patient at Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans’ Hospital, we have resources to assist you should you believe your personal or health information has been compromised. Truman VA’s Privacy Office is responsible for safeguarding our Veterans’ personal private and health information.
Although Truman VA Privacy Officers sometimes receive calls and in-person visits from our Veterans, not everyone knows about the medical center’s privacy team. We want all our Veterans to know that Truman VA has a Privacy Office with specialists who are available to assist with several important services, such as:
Amendments to Medical Records. Truman VA’s Privacy Office assists our patients to amend their medical records if the Veteran feels that any information is not correct or up to date. Each Veteran who receives care from VA has the right to request an amendment to their health information if they believe it is incomplete, inaccurate, untimely, or unrelated to their care. All that is required is the Veteran contact the Privacy Office and obtain an amendment request form, fill it out, sign and date it, and then submit it to the Privacy Office at Truman VA.
Reporting Privacy Concerns. Truman VA’s Privacy Office also responds to privacy concerns that may involve a Veteran’s personal and/or health information. If a Veteran identifies an incident or has a concern related to the privacy of their personal and/or health information, the issue is referred to the Privacy Office for investigation. Likewise, if an outside government agency or office, such as a congressman’s office, receives a concern from a Veteran about an issue related to their personal private and/or personal health information, and it involves Truman VA, then the Privacy Office will investigate the concern and prepare a response.
These are just a couple of the services Truman VA’s Privacy Office provides. If you have questions or concerns regarding your personal or health information with Truman VA, please contact us and we will assist you. You may contact Bruce Sones, Privacy Officer, at (573) 814-6589; Dawn Stroud, Privacy Officer, at (573) 814-4086; or Mary Strickland, Assistant Privacy Officer, at (573) 746-6930.
