An important part of healing from sexual violence is learning ways to regain a sense of calm and safety in our lives and bodies.

Yoga has been increasingly recognized as an effective method for healing the effects of traumatic experiences on both the body and mind. The goal of a trauma-informed yoga practice is to build resiliency and establish greater self-regulation. Specific postures and movements can be used to stimulate or deactivate the nervous system, which promotes a person’s ability to self-regulate. Trauma-informed yoga is about feeling safe in one’s body so that one can feel stable, have good self-esteem, and engage in healthy relationships. The yoga practice empowers survivors and helps increase well-being, confidence, and quality of life. This is a low impact. No prior yoga experience is necessary. Beginners level class.

To register for the class, please call Dr. Shantel Edmonds, MST Coordinator 803-776-4000, Ext. 57329
