Yves-Marie Applewhite began serving as the Assistant Director for Experience for the Durham VA Health Care System effective July 2023.
In this role she is honored to serve as the Executive Leadership Team sponsor for the following services: Police Service, Environmental Management Service, Veterans Canteen Service, the Office of Employee Experience, and the Veteran Experience Office.
Most recently she was the Associate Administrator for the Greenville Health Care Center and the Morehead City CBOC, and before that served as the DVAHCS’ Chief of the Integrated Strategic Communications Office. Mrs. Applewhite is experienced with determining communication strategies, program goals, and developing plans that shape public opinion and inform stakeholders including Veterans and Employees.
Mrs. Applewhite is a native of Fayetteville, North Carolina, and began her federal career with the U.S. Army in 2000. She is a VFW Life member, and a proud Army Veteran, having served as a Public Affairs Officer in the U.S. Army and U.S. Army Reserve. Mrs. Applewhite attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Communications Studies, and the University of Oklahoma where she earned a Master of Arts Degree in International Relations.
Mrs. Applewhite is a VHA Health Care Leadership Develop Program graduate of 2022 and a Leadership VA Fellow for 2023.
