Colorado Springs , CO — VA Eastern Colorado Health Care System’s Warrior Fest brings VA and community non-profits together to reduce isolation and build community.
Aurora, Colorado - On August 16, 2024, VA Eastern Colorado Health Care System will host Veterans and local non-profits for a social connection stand down. The resource fair will highlight nonprofit organizations where Veterans can meet other Veterans with shared interests or lived experiences. The event is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at John Venezia Park, 3555 Briargate Pkwy in Colorado Springs.
Eliminating Veteran suicide remains the highest priority of the VA Eastern Colorado Healthcare System. In addition to providing high quality mental health and suicide prevention services, VA is taking an upstream approach to prevent suicide before a Veteran is thinking about ending their lives.
“We want to reduce risk by fostering resilience through social connections, meaning and purpose,” said Dr. Brittany Musicaro, clinical psychologist and local recovery coordinator. “However, making new social connections or finding non-profit organizations that may be of interest as an adult isn’t easy. That’s why we’re bring all those resources together in one place, with one purpose – to find your people.”
Warrior Fest is intended to help bridge the barriers to making connections that many adults experience. Veterans are encouraged to come connect with other Veterans while learning about VA services and local community organizations. VA resources will include mental health peer support, suicide prevention, whole health, recreational therapy, vocational rehabilitation, homeless services, LGBTQ coordinator, and the Vet Center.
They will be joined by over 15 community organizations providing social support, health and wellness, behavioral health, shared interests and more. Organizations include the National Alliance for Mental Illness, Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance, Comeback Yoga, Team RWB, Red Rocks Cohen Clinic, Mount Carmel Veterans Center, Remount Foundation Equine, Project Healing Waters, Monster Garage, and more.
No registration is necessary for this free event.
