Mark H. Kadowaki MD, MBA

He received his MD from the Pritzker School of Medicine at the University of Chicago and completed his General Surgery Residency at the University of Chicago Hospitals and Clinics. After residency, Dr. Kadowaki served as a General Surgeon at Naval Hospital Great Lakes where he was the Director of the Critical Care Unit.

He moved on to private practice where he held several positions of leadership at the hospitals he was on staff at, including Chief of the Surgery Department and as a member of the Board of Directors of his Medical Group.

In 2015, he began his VA career at the Charles George VAMC in Asheville, North Carolina, where he held multiple positions including Chief of General Surgery, Chair of the Medical Records Committee, Co-Chair of the Utilization Management Committee and was the Cancer Liaison Physician to the Cancer Committee. 

Dr. Kadowaki took on the role of Acting Chief of Staff at the Oscar G Johnson VAMC in Iron Mountain, Michigan, in 2019 and was appointed to the permanent position in 2020. During his tenure, the OGJVAMC won the VHA Best Experience Award for Complexity 3 facilities in 2019 and 2021 and the Best Overall (all Complexities) in 2020 and 2022. The facility has also been consistently in the top 10 nationally for Best Place to Work among VA facilities and has maintained a Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services five-star rating in all categories.

He was also the Local Site Investigator for the research project CSP 599: Transfusion Trigger after Operations in High Cardiac Risk Patients (TOP). He completed his MBA with specialization in Healthcare Administration from King University, located in Bristol, Tennessee.
