VA hosts Breast Cancer Awareness Events in Wilmington NC

PRESS RELEASE

October 10, 2024

Fayetteville , NC — At VA, breast cancer awareness is about empowering Veterans and their caregivers with the knowledge and resources to take charge of their health, know their risk factors and support those facing the diagnosis from treatment through recovery.

Here are two dates to mark on your calendar. Both take place at Wilmington VA Health Care Center, 1705 Gardner Drive.

  • The VA 3D Mobile Mammography Unit returns to Wilmington providing free screening mammograms to female Veterans over 40.  The mobile unit will begin service on October 21 until January 15, 2025.  Female Veterans can request an appointment by calling 910-488-2120 ext. 6297, 6214, or 6728.
  • Breast Cancer Awareness and Resource Fair on October 23, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Stop by to learn more about breast health and other health care resources.  Feel free to wear pink as a visual reminder of Breast Cancer Awareness, a recognition of those we have lost, and in celebration of the survivors.

Breast cancer is the second most common cancer among women in the United States, and over 1,200 Veterans enrolled in VA care are diagnosed with breast cancer each year.

At the Fayetteville NC VA Coastal Health Care System, our mission is to fulfill President Lincoln’s promise to care for those who have served in our nation’s military and for their families, caregivers, and survivors.
