VA Dental Insurance Program

VA’s  comprehensive VA Dental Insurance Program (VADIP) gives enrolled Veterans and CHAMPVA beneficiaries  the opportunity to purchase dental at a reduced cost. Participation is voluntary. Purchasing a dental plan does not affect Veterans’ eligibility for VA dental services and treatment.  Covered services include diagnostic, preventative, surgical, emergency and endodontic/restorative treatment.

VADIP began as a three-year, national pilot program to assess the feasibility and advisability of providing a premium-based dental insurance plan to eligible individuals. The VADIP pilot program began Jan. 1, 2014, and ended Jan. 31, 2017.  Delta Dental and MetLife were the insurance providers for the VADIP pilot program.   Individuals who were enrolled in VADIP at the end of the pilot period automatically can continue coverage for up to 12 months, or not to exceed January 31, 2018, depending on the terms of their Delta Dental or MetLife plan and unless they cancel coverage sooner.

The new VADIP contract process is proceeding.  Until a new contract is established, there will be no new VADIP enrollments.  VA will announce the private insurance providers and new enrollment timelines as soon as the contracting process is complete.
